Riley ranked among ‘Best Children’s Hospitals’

Subscribe NowU.S. News & World Report has released its annual ranking of the Best Children’s Hospitals in the country. While there are no Indiana hospitals in the overall top 10 ranking, Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis is ranked in multiple specialty categories.
The publication partnered with North Carolina-based research and consulting firm RTI International to collect and analyze data from 108 children’s hospitals, as well as survey thousands of pediatric specialists.
Riley Hospital is the only Indiana representative on this year’s list and is ranked in all 11 specialty categories:
- Urology: No. 5
- Pulmonology & Lung Surgery: No. 7
- Nephrology: No. 10
- Gastroenterology & GI Surgery: No. 15
- Diabetes & Endocrinology: No. 18
- Cancer: No. 21
- Cardiology & Heart Surgery: No. 27
- Orthopedics: No. 28
- Neonatology: No. 31
- Neurology & Neurosurgery: No. 44
- Behavioral Health: Top 50
“The U.S. News and World Report rankings this year are not just a number; They are a testimony to the ongoing excellence in pediatric care that we have cultivated over the last century. It reflects the dedication, compassion, and innovation that have been the cornerstone of our legacy,” Riley Chief Medical Officer Mara Nitu said in a news release. “We thank all of our Riley families for trusting us with their child’s care; we are committed to ensuring that the next century of care is even more impactful.”
Behavioral health is a new specialty category this year. U.S. News Managing Editor Ben Harder said in a news release that one in five U.S. children has a mental, emotional, behavioral or developmental disorder,
according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
Riley also remains tied for third in the publication’s Midwest rankings. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Ohio tops the regional list.
The publication’s “Honor Roll” for 2024 is led by Boston Children’s Hospital; Children’s Hospital Colorado, Aurora; and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
