While there are no Indiana hospitals in the overall top 10 ranking, Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis is ranked in multiple specialty categories.
The publication partnered with North Carolina-based research and consulting firm RTI International to collect and analyze data from 119 children’s hospitals, as well as survey thousands of pediatric specialists.
Riley Hospital is the only Indiana representative on this year’s list and is ranked in all 10 specialty categories:
- Urology: No. 3
- Pulmonology: No. 8
- Nephrology: No. 12
- Diabetes & Endocrinology: No. 15
- Gastroenterology: No. 16
- Neonatology: No. 17
- Cardiology: No. 18
- Cancer: No. 24
- Orthopedics: No. 33
- Neurology: No. 50
Riley also remains tied for third in the publication’s Midwest rankings. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Ohio tops the regional list.
“Riley’s consistency in being ranked by U.S. News and World Report reaffirms that our team members are committed to providing the best care to Hoosier children,” said Dr. Mara Nitu, chief medical officer of Riley Children’s Health. “We are grateful for the compassion and expertise our clinicians continue to offer to patients and their families. We thank our patients and their families for trusting us with their care.”
The Cincinnati hospital is also No. 1 on the overall national “Honor Roll” ranking, moving ahead of Boston Children’s Hospital, which had held the top spot for nine consecutive years.
“Parents of sick children face many difficult challenges, including how to identify the best children’s hospital to treat their illness or condition,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “The rankings, which are increasingly determined by objective measures of hospital quality, can help them make informed decisions.”
