Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the revamped facility includes a general store, ice cream store, and event space.
The project, which was several years in the making, is the result of a more than $5 million investment. The pavilion also includes a first-floor cafe, rooftop bar and grill, and boardwalk.
The pavilion was originally constructed in 1930 and had sat vacant for years.
“For most of my lifetime, it was a storage shed with some toilets,” said Chuck Williams with Pavilion Partners, which led the renovation effort. “It was basically gutted. There wasn’t even a floor in half of the first floor.”
The Times reports the general store and ice cream store are already open. Officials expect to open the event space on July 1 and restaurant on July 25. Pavilion Partners has already hired 25 employees thus far and plans to add another 60.
