Mayor Stephen Wood says the community is a founding member of IMPA and was one of the first three members to have a solar park. “When the opportunity arose to add a second solar park, we welcomed the chance to not only broaden the generation resources in our community, but to bolster economic development and provide further educational opportunities for our community", said Wood.
The Rensselaer 2 Solar Park is four times bigger than the first park, and is comprised of nearly 14,000 solar panels located on 25 acres. The new park is furnished with a single axis tracking system, which means the panels move toward the sun throughout the day. The facility will produce enough energy to power over 500 homes.
Other communities to have solar panels are: Anderson, Argos, Bainbridge, Crawfordsville, Flora, Frankton, Greenfield, Huntingburg, Pendleton, Peru, Richmond, Spiceland, Tell City, Washington and Waynetown. IMPA is also currently building solar plants in Advance, Richmond and Tipton.
