The fundraising campaign at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Dubois County hit a snag after the project began.
Indiana Landmarks says originally, the project included refinishing and reinstalling the original pulpit, statuary and tabernacle that had been in storage, as well as restoring historic stained glass windows and decorative painting on the vaulted ceiling. The church had raised the necessary $1.4 million and work began in October.
As work began, crews noticed the plaster was in very bad shape and required the removal of the entire ceiling. The work added an additional $350,000 to the project and the church is attempting to raise the necessary funds.
