The RDA is partnering with Johnson Consulting and the Winston/Terrell Group, which are updating a 2018 feasibility study’s analysis of potential sites.
The “Call for Potential Convention Sites” is asking land owners in Lake County if they own any sites that they would like to be considered as part of the project.
In the original feasibility study, nine locations were identified as possible site options. Those locations are:
- Hammond I-94 & US 41 (Hammond)
- Kennedy Ave & I-94 (Hammond)
- Hammond I-90 & U.S. 12 (Hammond)
- Majestic Star (Gary)
- Century Mall (Merrillville)
- Radisson/Star Plaza (Merrillville)
- Crown Point I-65 (Crown Point)
- IU Northwest (Gary)
- Hobart Silverstone (Hobart)
The RDA said the original locations will still be considered along with any new sites that are submitted.
To be considered for the project, a site must be completely located within Lake County, have at least 10 acres of contiguous land, and the owners of the land must be identified.
Submissions are being accepted through Jan. 30. You can learn more about the process by clicking here.
Last year, the Indiana General Assembly passed a bill allowing the Lake County Board of Commissioners to solicit convention center proposals through May 31, 2024. A decision on the proposals must be made before Dec. 1.
