Railroad transportation provider outlines Indiana layoffs

Subscribe NowMissouri-based Railcrew Xpress is planning to lay off 70 employees at several sites throughout Indiana. The company, which provides transportation services for railroad crews, said in a notice to the state its contract with CSX Corp. (Nasdaq: CSX) is being canceled, and it will permanently close five locations.
Railcrew Xpress is a third-party transportation provider that moves railway crew, mainly engineers and conductors, from train to train, according to the company’s website.
The company said the cancellation of its CSX contract will be effective Feb. 20 and affect the following locations and workers:
- Avon – 18 employees
- Evansville – 23 employees
- Lafayette – 11 employees
- Terre Haute – 14 employees
- Vincennes – 4 employees
Railcrew Xpress did not specify if the affected employees would be rehired by a new contractor or if any employees in other states are being affected by the contract’s cancellation.
The company’s website states Railcrew Xpress employs 2,000 people in 25 states.
