Radius Plans First International Trip

The southwest central Indiana economic development organization says its plans this year include increased marketing and a trade mission to Japan. Radius Indiana Chief Executive Officer Jeff Quyle tells Inside INdiana Business the organization is poised to tout the region’s "new collaborative spirit" and increased connectivity from the extended I-69.
Quyle believes southwest central Indiana is positioned to market itself more globally and domestically, which it hasn’t always done. "Our elected officials and our economic development leaders understand that there’s an opportunity for us to go out and sell ourselves as kind of the undiscovered corner of Indiana," he said, "and a part of Indiana that — in the past — wasn’t as aggressive in telling our story to businesses overseas. And that’s what we’re going to begin to do as we go to Japan later this year is begin to tell that story." Within the U.S. in recent years, Quyle says Radius Indiana has boosted its marketing efforts in places like Cincinnati, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Greenville, South Carolina.
Former Radius Indiana CEO Becky Skillman will remain board chair. The new board members include Old National Bank Senior vice President Tim Robinette, Steve Bartels with Patoka Lake Marina & Winery, Vectren North Vice President Mike Roeder and Orange County Economic Development Partnership Executive Director Misty Weisensteiner.
The organization’s 2018 budget includes funding for its second Economic Development for community Leadership Program, increased marketing efforts, money to support a regional tourism strategy and further support for Crane Community Development.
The trip to Japan, set for the fall, is the first international trip for the organization. The delegation will include economic development and elected officials from throughout the region. Chief Executive Officer Jeff Quyle calls foreign investment a powerful economic driver, and says the organization wants to ensure that "the Radius region is top of mind for companies looking to expand or locate new facilities in the Midwest."
Radius Indiana represents Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Orange and Washington counties.
