Purdue engineering school offering guaranteed internships to Indy students

Purdue in Indianapolis engineering undergraduate students in good standing will be guaranteed a paid co-op, industry or undergraduate research internship as part of their degree, the university announced Wednesday.
The school said it hopes the decision will improve retention rates, increase the likelihood of staying in the state post-grad and launch student into their careers with hands-on experience.
The internship program will start with its inaugural class in 2024.
“We aim to be the top program nationally for experiential learning for engineers, including co-op, internships and EPICS/VIP,” Arvind Raman, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering, in a news release. “We are delighted to offer guaranteed paid internships to the inaugural class of Boilermaker engineers at Purdue University in Indianapolis.”
Through the university’s Indianapolis expansion, Purdue said prospective students can expect the same standards and participate in programs available at both campuses. By being located in the capital city, the university said it positions students to work at a plethora of related organizations and companies.
The university already has a co-op and internship program is ramping up for this initiative and has said industry partners are eager to work with them on the expansion.
“Students at Purdue University in Indianapolis will benefit by living and studying in a vibrant urban center while pursuing their Purdue University education,” said David Umulis, senior vice provost at Purdue University in Indianapolis.
