INDIANAPOLIS - Two newly hired executives at the Ports of Indiana will lead its new business endeavors to expan cargo capacities and rail projects.
Ian Hirt will oversee targeted cargo development, including new container shipments, the port authority said Monday. He previously worked for the Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor from 2017 to 2021 and has an ownership interest in Chicago-based Benchmark Marine Agency.
Matt Service will seek to expand rail development at the state’s three ports. He owns Service Rail Advisors out of Jacksonville, Florida and was chief investment officer at Denver-based Pioneer Lines, which was acquired by Patriot Rail, also based in Jacksonville, in 2022.
The Ports of Indiana credits Service in a news release for leading over $1 billion worth of mergers and acquisitions.
“Ian and Matt bring extensive institutional knowledge and industry connections that will help lead multiple business development projects for Ports of Indiana,” said Jenna Richardt, senior vice president of business development and engagement, in the release. “We are excited to enlist their services to lead key projects and explore uncharted territory for Ports of Indiana’s future growth and development.”
The Ports of Indiana aims to build on its success with the new hires. A study released in September showed the state’s three ports generate an estimated $8.7 billion each year for the economy as well as support 49,000 jobs.
