Bishop Joseph Siegel succeeds Charles Thompson, who left the diocese after being selected to serve as Archbishop of Indianapolis.
Bishop Siegel has served as Auxiliary Bishop of Joliet in Illinois since 2009. He was ordained a priest for the Joliet Diocese in 1988 and has served in a variety of roles in Illinois, including serving as Vicar General to Bishop Daniel Conlon in 2011.
Archbishop Thompson was appointed to the Indianapolis post in June. Less than two months later, the Evansville Diocese selected Father Bernie Etienne to serve as diocesan administrator until a new bishop was appointed.
