The South Bend Tribune reports the pontoon boat manufacturer is investing $5 million to acquire a former conference center in Elkhart and transform it into additional production space and fill more than 75 open jobs.
The Center Six One Five building is located about a half mile from Bennington’s headquarters. The company says the process of expanding production to the new building has already begun.
“Demand for our pontoons continues to be very strong,” Jake Vogel, president of Bennington Boats, said in a news release. “We are taking action investing in our hometown and its people to increase the availability of our boats for our dealers and customers.”
Bennington says some of the open jobs include TIG welders, automotive painters, assembly, maintenance, and shop supervisors, as well as positions in the company’s human resources, engineering, finance and marketing departments.
Bennington is a subsidiary of Minnesota-based Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE: PII), which employs some 1,200 workers in Elkhart County, according to the Tribune. Vogel tells the publication other Polaris brands located in the county, Godfrey and Hurricane, are also adding jobs due to increased demand.
