Smith is spending this week in Indiana as part of the Indiana Humanities Quantum Leap Poetry Tour. Smith will Wednesday hold moderated conversation and question-and-answer sessions in Shelbyville and Greencastle, followed by another event Thursday in Indianapolis.
Smith, who won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 2011 for her work Life on Mars, held the first event of the tour Tuesday in Hanover. Indiana Humanities is funding and organizing the tour in partnership with Brick Street Poetry and the Indianapolis Public Library.
"We’re thrilled to welcome Tracy to Indiana and help Hoosiers discover new poems that are relatable and fun as well as serious and important," said Keira Amstutz, chief executive officer of Indiana Humanities. "We are inspired by her passion and mission to help spread the word that poetry is for everyone."
The tour serves as the closing program for Indiana Humanities’ "Quantum Leap" initiative, which "explores the spirit of possibility and problem solving that happens when we bridge the STEM fields with the humanities.
This is Smith’s second trip to Indiana this year. In September, she hosted a lecture at Saint Mary’s College in northern Indiana.
