Its parent, Pittsburgh-based Dream Center Education Holdings LLC, attributes the decision to factors including increasing demand for online education. In July, enrollment was frozen at the Indianapolis campus in The Pyramids at College Park.
The school is guiding prospective students visiting its Indianapolis school website to enroll in its online program or at campuses in Pittsburgh or Atlanta, Georgia.
DCEH has released a statement discussing the decision:
After a complete and thorough examination of the three education systems in the DCEH network to ensure they are meeting the needs of today’s learners, we did not see demand growth for courses at these campuses. We made the decision to cease enrollments for a number of schools within The Art Institutes, Argosy University and South University systems. This decision was made for a number of reasons, including a shift in the demand for online programs in higher education and in student populations at the campuses, which have resulted in declining, unsustainable enrollment levels for campus-based programs in these markets. The majority of these campuses will close December 2018. This date may vary for students in programs which lead to licensure.
A spokesperson told Inside INdiana Business "we remain committed to helping students identify the best path for them to complete their education." They provided several options for students displaced in Indianapolis, including:
- Completing their program of study at the campus, uninterrupted, if they are able to graduate on or before the end of December 2018 when the campus will close (students who select this option receive a 50% discount in tuition for the remainder of their studies);
- Completing their program of study at another Art Institute location (students who select this option receive a 50% discount in tuition for the remainder of their studies); or
- Completing their program of study at a non-Art Institute, Argosy University or South University partner institution (students who select this option receive a $5,000 tuition grant to aid them in the completion of their studies).
- For those students who elect not to continue their educational program, the U.S. Department of Education provides the opportunity to apply for a closed school loan discharge. In addition to Indianapolis, other campuses and programs owned by DCEH that will be discontinued include: The Art Institutes Arlington, VA; Charleston, SC; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Nashville, TN; Novi, MI; Philadelphia, PA; Phoenix, AZ; Raleigh-Durham, NC; Portland, OR; San Bernardino, CA; San Francisco, CA; Santa Ana, CA; Sacramento, CA; and Schaumburg, IL, as well as Argosy University Alameda, CA; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Nashville, TN; Ontario, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; San Diego, CA; Sarasota, FL; and Schaumburg, IL, and South University Novi, MI; High Point, NC; and Cleveland, OH.
