The new Paragon Medical plant in Pierceton will specialize in 3D printing of medical devices, which CEO Wil Boren said is expected to be an $8 billion market by 2030.
Paragon Medical broke ground on the project in September 2021. The company says it anticipates investing an additional $19 million in the facility over the next five years.
“Our investment demonstrates a continued commitment to innovation in design and manufacturing in this rapidly growing space,” Boren said in a news release. “Our new additive manufacturing capability is serving our local medical device community as well as making a global impact.”
Additive manufacturing is another term for 3D printing. The company said the facility’s capabilities can reduce lead time, cost, and supply chain complexity across product lines in the medical device industry.
Dan Blum, vice president and general manager of Paragon Medical’s Pierceton campus, told IIB’s Kylie Veleta in 2021 the facility would allow the company to integrate the entire additive manufacturing process under one roof, “from prototype to general manufacturing and full production.”
When plans for the 34,000-square-foot facility were first announced, the company said it would create 15 jobs as a result.
