The organization’s board recently approved a transition plan that includes hiring a search firm and transitioning Wendy Dant Chesser’s duties to other staff by her last day on Oct. 26.
Chesser announced in July that she would step down from her role with the regional economic development organization to take a position with the River Ridge Development Authority in Jeffersonville. Chesser was 1si’s third president and first woman to lead the organization.
“I am pleased with the transition plan that the executive committee has developed for the remainder of my time at 1si,” Chesser said in a news release. “1si is in good hands with the current team of leadership and staff and will continue the mission to help businesses thrive and innovate in southern Indiana and Louisville metro area.”
Bryan Wickens, board chair for 1si, will lead the organization’s search committee. The board, as well as local business leaders and investors, will be represented on the committee.
The committee has put out a request for proposals to find a search firm to assist in interviewing CEO candidates. An interim CEO will be named if a candidate is not selected before Oct. 26.
“Wendy has done an excellent job for nearly 11 years, and we appreciate all that she has done in guiding the organization,” Wickens said. “We know that change can be challenging, but we truly have an incredible opportunity in front of us to build on her work and the wonderful foundation of 1si’s past accomplishments. We are committed to finding the leader we need today to take our organization and region to the next level.”
