The university says planning and preparations are underway to hold in-class sessions for the fall semester at its main campus in Oakland City as well as its Adult Professional Studies campuses.
The university says its campuses will return to normal staff operations on June 1. The university has instituted personal protective equipment and social distancing protocols, as well as increased cleaning and disinfecting requirements.
President Ron Dempsey says the school has certain advantages because of its smaller student population. He says it can better monitor, detect, and quarantine the campus communities if necessary, and the university can adjust its class distribution and course scheduling.
“In addition, the university is in an area of southwest Indiana that has had a smaller number of cases reported and has excellent health care facilities with ample capacity. I do not believe it is possible to prevent campus constituents from contracting the virus but we will employ all efforts and resources to limit any spread of the virus,” said Dempsey.
The university has learning center campuses in Bedford, Evansville, Rockport, and Jasper.
The university says complete plans for reopening will be available in June.
