The company says the acquisition is part of a $1 million expansion of its distribution and repackaging operations that will create 25 jobs.
The pharmaceutical repackaging and fulfillment company says it will begin renovations at the property in March. Once that effort is complete, Northwind plans to relocate all of its Indianapolis operations to the building.
"Bringing the former St. Bernadette Church and School building back to life aligns perfectly with our philosophy to leave things better than we found them," said Phillip Berry, chief executive officer of Northwind. "We are thrilled to be able to align our plans for expansion with the broader revitalization efforts of the near-east side of Indianapolis."
The building, located in the Christian Park neighborhood in Indy, opened in 1952 and has been closed since 2014. Harlon Wilson, president of the My Christian Park Neighborhood Association, calls the move by Northwind a "tremendous win" for the neighborhood.
"The St. Bernadette acquisition is one of many revitalization efforts to get underway in Christian Park," said Wilson. "We are excited to welcome Northwind and its sister companies to our beautiful neighborhood and look forward to collaborative opportunities in support of their success and the success of the surrounding community."
Wilson says the renovation and relocation effort by Northwind has received overwhelming support by residents.
