The three-story, 34,600-square-foot building will be at the corner of Mt. Comfort Road and Second Street as part of the $50 million McCord Square Downtown District.
The first of the three stories will be used for NineStar operations, but the second and third will be for public and co-op member use. The company plans to create a gathering space, catering kitchen, and potential offices and meeting rooms.
Construction is expected to start later this year, with occupancy starting in the first quarter of 2025.
“McCord Square is a thoughtfully planned town center development with exciting early momentum,” Shelby Bowen, president of Rebar Development, said in a news release. “Together, with the Town and our project partners, we look forward to bringing additional investment, jobs, and engaging spaces to the new heart of downtown McCordsville. NineStar Connect’s commitment is a step forward in the transformation.”
NineStar Connect is Hancock County’s utility cooperative that provides electric, water and sewer, and internet services. About 15 to 20 employees will work at the 24/7 NineStar customer support center inside the new building.
The project joins McCord Square Apartments, a Rebar Development endeavor, which will include 205 apartments, six commercial studios and retail space. The project, for which ground was broken in October 2022, is estimated to be completed in summer 2024.
Other development in the district will include more community spaces, a new police station and other commercial and residential projects.
