Bionca Gambill will be sworn in Tuesday during a ceremony at the Statehouse. She was selected by her party's precinct committee members this weekend and will also be the candidate on the ballot for the seat in November.
Gambill will take on Republican Bruce Borders, who previously served four terms in the General assembly.
Battles announced last month he was stepping down to spend more time with his family.
