Nestlé USA has unveiled plans to invest nearly $80 million into its Anderson operations. Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report the company will purchase new equipment for the facility and add 30 jobs.

The Anderson City Council is considering a six-year, 65 percent tax abatement for the investment. A final vote on the incentives is expected to take place at the council’s January 11 meeting. Mayor Tom Broderick tells the publication the city negotiated with Nestlé for a lower percentage tax abatement, instead of the standard 100 percent.

"We want to continue to be aggressive to bring new business to Anderson, but we wanted to be fair to the taxpayers and continue to expand our tax base," said Broderick. “Nestle has been a good corporate citizen. We reached a deal that will benefit both parties."

Nestlé says the new jobs will have an average annual salary of $75,000, or just over $36 per hour. The company is the largest employer in Anderson, with 774 people currently working at the plant.

Nestlé spokesperson Josh Malancuk tells The Herald Bulletin the company has invested more than $800 million into the Anderson facility since it opened in 2009.
