The city seeks to raise $35,000 and could receive a match from the agencies.
The effort is being launched through the CreatINg Livable Communities program, a pilot program for place-based projects that benefit Hoosiers over the age of 50, which launched in May.
The project, led by the Halteman Village Neighborhood Association (HVNA) in conjunction with Muncie Parks and Recreation, aims to expand the offerings at Halteman Park by creating new spaces for residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy, the IHCDA said in a news release.
It’s the second phase of the project and features seating installations around future pickleball courts, park benches, a shade structure and a toddler play area. The first phase was successfully funded in 2021.
“Since the initial phase laid the foundation for creating a park and greenspace for residents, we would like to use this campaign to focus on implementing recreational and wellness opportunities for adults and seniors in addition to adding more play amenities,” said J.P. Hall, HVNA President. “We really see this as a multigenerational space for all who live in the northwest part of the city.”
The deadline for the Halteman Park campaign is August 26th. The campaign raised over $3,300 as of Friday evening.
Hall was recently recognized by the The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County as a recipient of the 2023 David Sursa Leadership Award, which recognizes not-for-profit board members who have contributed to success in their community.
The CreatINg Livable Communities program is selecting five projects with a total development budget between $15,000 and $50,000 for consideration.
