More than 5,000 runners finished the marathon, an event record, and together with the half marathon and 5K race drew more than 16,000 participants, event sponsor CNO Financial Group said in a news release. People from all 50 states and more than 30 countries participated.
“Witnessing the culmination of preparation and training for our thousands of participants today was spectacular,” Jed Cornforth, executive director of event organizer Beyond Monumental, said in the Saturday news release. “We couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate everyone’s monumental achievements, and we can’t thank our volunteers, community partners, sponsors and the city of Indianapolis enough for helping to make the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon possible each year.”
Other records were set in race times in the marathon and half marathon.
In the marathon, women’s champion Lindsey Bradley of Heath, Texas, shattered the record set in last year’s race by nearly four minutes with a time of 2:31:46.
In the half marathon, men’s champion Chandler Gibbens of Chicago finished in 1:02:25, topping the record set in 2021 by a second. Women’s champion Emma Grace Hurley of Indianapolis finished in 1:08:25, two minutes faster than the 2021 record. The top three finishers in the women’s field finished under the former course record.
Austin Nolan of Evansville was the men’s marathon champion with a time of 2:16:30.
In the 5K, men’s champion Brendan Thomas of North Easton, Massachusetts finished in 14:11, and women’s champion Britney Romero of Chicago finished in 16:33.
This year’s event marked the 12th consecutive sellout, Carmel-based CNO Financial Group said. Next year’s event is scheduled for Nov. 8.
