The Res is a 23-acre wooded area outside Mishawaka and was established as a Boy Scout Reservation in 1920. It now has education programming, gathering places, trails and camping areas.
If the campaign reaches its goal before Feb. 4, 2024, it will receive a matching grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, totaling at least $30,000 for the project. One person has donated $500 as of Thursday afternoon.
The fund will go toward building a pedestrian foot bridge over Eller Creek.
“The building of a new bridge will allow the Res to continue to grow and offer excellent programing and recreational opportunities,” said Jake Crawford, Board President of The Preservation of the Res, Inc., in a news release. “The bridge isn’t just about securing access to our trails and amenities, it’s symbolic of our interest in creating partnerships within our own community to enhance the scale and scope of what our nature preserve can be.”
The CreatINg Places program is open to not-for-profits and local governments, and eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000.
The IHCDA says its projects in the CreatINg Places program have raised more than $9.6 million in public funds and $7.8 million in matching funds since its inception in 2016.
