The agreement, terms for which were not disclosed, will provide electricity generated from the Heirloom Solar Project in Petersburgh to support Meta’s regional operations, Arevon said.
Construction began recently on the 60-megawatt solar project, which is part of the overall 191-megawatt Ratts 1 Solar project in Pike County. Arevon says the Ratts 1 project will be able to produce enough clean energy to power the equivalent of 28,000 homes when fully operational.
“Arevon is proud to once again partner with Meta and contribute to their sustainability goal of matching its operations with 100% renewable energy and reaching net zero emissions across its value chain,” Arevon CEO Kevin Smith said in a news release. “Pike County has been a welcoming host to the Heirloom Solar Project, and we are excited to be a part of the community for years to come.”
Meta is currently developing an $800 million data center campus at River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville, about 110 miles east of Petersburg. The data center is expected to result in 100 new jobs.
The company has two other agreements with Meta in place at another solar project in Missouri. The Heirloom Solar Project is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2025.
Arevon said the Ratts 1 project will create 200 construction jobs and a small number of full-time operations and maintenance positions when the project is complete.
While details of the company’s investment were not provided, Arevon said it will disburse more than $86 million to local governments over the lifespan of the project, and local landowners will also receive steady payments.
Arevon is no stranger to southwest Indiana. In May, the company broke ground on a $352 million solar farm in Posey County.
