Freudenberg Medical is launching the Handle Design Center of Excellence, which it says will centralize design and development efforts for medical device handles.
Freudenberg says the goal is to increase the speed of developing prototypes for ergonomically-focused handles that can easily transition to commercial manufacturing by bringing its team under one roof.
“Our industrial design and mechanical development team has over 50 years of combined product design experience. This team is focused on physician interaction, product functionality, and translating that to commercial manufacturability,” CEO Mark Ostwald said in a news release. “Our extensive clinical knowledge combined with established suppliers, places Freudenberg Medical as the premier handle design partner.”
Freudenberg Medical manufactures a variety of devices and components for multiple medical applications, including endoscopy, drug and cell therapy and delivery, and structural heart.
The company employs 2,300 people globally and 150 in Jeffersonville. Financial details of the launch and a potential workforce increase were not disclosed.
