The center, which has been talked about for nearly a decade, is located in the heart of the city’s downtown, near the newly refurbished Hulman Center. “We’ve absolutely come a long way,” said Mayor Duke Bennett. “It’s pretty competitive out there and we all have to do something as a state of Indiana to make ourselves standout and be a place where people want to come. I think we’ve taken ourselves to another level and that’s going to make us standout and hopefully lead to more economic development activity down the road.”
Bennett talked about the convention center and its potential impact on this weekend’s edition of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.
Bennett says the combination of the convention center, renovated Hulman Center and planned Churchill Downs casino and hotel will solidify the city as a regional destination.
The mayor expects ground to be broken for the casino in late May or early June.
