One Southern Indiana, the chamber of commerce and economic development organization for Clark and Floyd counties, said Monday that Voestalpine Roll Forming Corp. would invest nearly $78 million to grow operations and create 100 jobs, if the city is chosen for the project.
Voestalpine RFC currently operates a facility at 1205 N Access Drive at the Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville. The expansion would add a production line for frame rails for several major global customers, One Southern Indiana said in a news release.
“We are thrilled voestalpine RFC continues to find success in Jeffersonville and are now under final consideration to significantly grow their operations at their Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville location,” Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore said in the release. “This expansion is yet another reflection of the vibrant economic environment we have fostered over the years, now affording us this opportunity to bring over 100 new high-wage jobs to the community, all of which are above the Clark County average wage.”
Voestalpine RFC did not specify how much space would be added with the expansion. Several locations are being considered for the project, and the company is requesting support from the city as it makes its final decision. Duke Energy has already offered additional incentives for the project.
A spokesperson for the company did not respond to an Inside INdiana Business request for more information.
Chief Financial Officer Brad Lacy thanked local and state officials for their support, including the city of Jeffersonville, One Southern Indiana and the Indiana Economic Development Corp.
“The cooperation with state and local leaders is a key consideration for us,” Lacy said in the release. “It is important to note that we still have a decision to make on an ideal location for our investment for all stakeholders including employees, customers and the communities in which we operate.
Lacy said the company plans to make a final decision on the location for the expansion next week, with an official announcement expected on Aug. 19.
In addition to Jeffersonville, Voestalpine RFC operates multiple facilities in Shelby County, Kentucky and one in Pennsylvania.
