Lincoln Heritage Trail Relaunching

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Office of Tourism Development is relaunching the Lincoln Heritage Trail Monday in honor of the 16th president’s birthday. The effort, in conjunction with the tourism offices of Kentucky and Illinois, includes additions to the trail which highlight places of significance to Lincoln’s life across the three states.
The improved trail now includes the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City, where visitors can see the cabin site memorial and walk in Lincoln’s footsteps on the Trial of Twelve Stones. The nearby Lincoln State Park has also been added to the trail.
The trail also now features the William Jones historic home. The restored 1834 Federal-design building was the home of the merchant employer of Lincoln, according to the IOTD. Finally, the Indiana State Museum, which features a number of artifacts from Abraham Lincoln’s early years as part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, is now a part of the trail.
"What is now Lincoln City, Indiana, was the boyhood home of Abraham Lincoln where he spent his formative years from the age of seven to 21," said Mark Newman, executive director of the IOTD. "The Lincoln Heritage Trail charts Lincoln’s life from birth to youth to adulthood chronicling his time and influences in Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois before becoming our 16th president."
