Taillon succeeds former Crown Point Mayor David Uran, who resigned at the end of 2023.
Taillon currently serves as chief of staff for the city of Hammond and previously held the role of executive director of planning and development. He was selected “following careful consideration and evaluation of numerous candidates,” the bureau said in a news release.
In his new role, Taillon will be responsible for leading efforts to enhance economic growth through tourism and attracting visitors to the region.
“His vision, strategic thinking, and proven leadership skills make him the ideal candidate to guide the organization toward a prosperous future,” the tourism bureau said in the release. “Under Phil’s guidance, the SSCVA is confident that it will continue to thrive and exceed expectations in promoting the region as a premier destination for visitors and events.”
Prior to entering public service, Taillon spent more than 10 years with First Midwest Bank, which was acquired by Evansville-based Old National Bank in 2022.
The bureau said the board’s executive committee will soon begin contract negotiations.
