The Championship Park project will include a mixed-use development near U.S. 31 featuring office, retail, restaurant and hotel space, as well as eight multi-purpose youth sports fields at Darrough Chapel Park.
The groundbreaking comes nearly a year after plans for the project were first announced. The project is being developed by Henke Development Group, which also led the creation of Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield.
The mixed-use portion of the project has an estimated $77 million price tag with the remaining $9 million coming from the city for the sports fields.
Kokomo Mayor Tyler Moore will be joined by Henke Development Group’s Steve Henke, former Major League Baseball player Joe Thatcher and other city officials for the groundbreaking ceremony.
