The initiative helps business and industrial sites plan and market themselves for companies looking to relocate.
Duke Energy works with a commercial site development partner to identify areas with high potential. The company then works with local officials to develop a marketing strategy and uses its national network to advertise the selected sites. The company awards up to $10,000 to each location for preparation.
Duke Energy’s selections this year include the North Vernon Industrial Commerce Park in Jennings County and the third and fourth phases of Purdue Research Park in Tippecanoe County.
The North Vernon site incudes 49 acres on State Road 3 near GT Industries. The site is within 65 miles of Indianapolis, Louisville and Cincinnati and has public water, natural gas and city sewer service avaiable.
Purdue Research Park offers over 300 acres of shovel-ready land in a space home already to more than 250 high-tech companies. The research park, which is a part of the Purdue Research Foundation, is minutes from Purdue’s West Lafayette campus and an hour from Indianapolis.
“We know that successful economic development is seldom the work of a single organization,” Duke Energy Indiana President Stan Pinegar said in a news release. “Through our Site Readiness Program, we work in partnership with local communities to leverage assets, expertise and relationships to increase the quantity and quality of developable sites within our service territory, encouraging new capital investment and creating jobs.”
Duke Energy officials say their Site Readiness Program has secured 21 projects among 45 sites since the program’s founding in 2013. Those projects have secured more than 6,000 new jobs and $5.78 billion in capital investment in Indiana, according to Duke Energy’s estimates.
