Subscribe NowThe mayor of Jeffersonville says "unprecedented growth" in recent years has prompted the city to update its long-term master plan. Mike Moore says it will center on six major parts of the city to develop over the next 20 years. The plan was last updated eight years ago and did not reflect recent major developments including the Ohio River Bridges Project, Big Four Pedestrian Bridge, Big Four Station and transformation of the River Ridge Commerce Center.
Moore says the plan "will help set a course for future generations and decision-makers as a strategic way to provide the best possible quality of life for everyone as new investment continues in the city." He tells Inside INdiana Business, Jeffersonville already possesses a major advantage in its existing infrastructure. He says the city is more "shovel-ready" than surrounding communities and has assets and a development process that put it ahead of competitors.
The primary focus areas are:
- Falls Landing and Downtown
- 10th Street Revitalization
- 10th Street/I-265 Commercial Area
- "River Ridge Gateway
- I-265 Gateway
- Veterans Parkway Extension
The plan is the culmination of a year’s worth of sessions gathering input from residents and the business community. Moore says a key is the "numerous" action steps to keep the administration accountable.
The mayor is seeking approval from the city’s plan commission and city council.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Moore says the plan also illustrates the city is “probably three or four steps” ahead of surrounding communities.
