Japanese Cabinet Leader Coming to Indy

A Japanese cabinet official will be in Indiana Wednesday to meet with state leaders, including Governor Eric Holcomb. Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Hiroshige Seko will also host a dinner for executives of Japanese businesses in Indiana.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says Seko is the highest-ranking Japanese official to visit Indiana in recent years. He is scheduled to visit Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. in Lafayette Thursday morning before leaving the state. Seko is also visiting Ohio and Michigan during his three-day trip to the Midwest.

Japan is Indiana’s largest foreign investor. The state is home to more than 290 Japanese businesses that support more than 65,000 Hoosier jobs. The Japan Consulate General’s office in Chicago says Indiana’s number of Japanese business facilities has increased by more than 20 percent over the past five years, while total employment grew by 46 percent. The vast majority of Japanese investment in Indiana is in the automotive sector.
