Cooper, who has served as interim director since August 2023, will officially start in the position on July 1. He also will continue in his role as the men’s basketball coach, according to a press release.
Since becoming the men’s basketball coach in 2013, Cooper has won the most career games and achieved the best win percentage in the team’s history, and has led the team to win three conference tournament championships (2020, 2021, 2023).
Cooper is replacing Steve Bruce, who served as director for nine years before stepping down in 2023 to focus on coaching IUSB women’s basketball.
“I appreciate the opportunity and support that Chancellor (Susan) Elrod, our upper administration, and our coaching staff have given me through this transition,” said Cooper. “I have some big shoes to fill following the tremendous job that Steve Bruce did building the department into what it is today,”
Prior to becoming a coach at IUSB, Cooper coached at Alfred University in New York, Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia, and Ohio Wesleyan University.
