Indiana University says the newly-renamed IU Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering gives its schools in Bloomington and Indianapolis a singular identity.
IU says unifying the schools under one name will strengthen the connection between the campuses and streamline collaboration. The university says the unification will also provide additional opportunities for its students, faculty and staff to have a positive impact on the Hoosier State and beyond.
“The expansion of the Luddy name to Indianapolis is an important step in the evolution of our campus as we work toward Vision 2024,” IUPUI Interim Chancellor Andrew Klein said. “We look forward to the increased collaboration between faculty, students and industry partners that this change will help foster.”
The Luddy School, which was established in 2000, has been under the leadership of one dean based on IU’s Bloomington campus. The university says each campus is expected to retain its current degree programs and students, with plans for future expansions.
“Moving forward as one school is an exciting step in the growth of the Luddy School and will allow us to build upon the strengths of our Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses,” Dean Joanna Millunchick said. “The more we work together, the more we can accomplish.”
The Luddy School is named after IU alumnus and California-based ServiceNow (NYSE: NOW) founder Fred Luddy.
