IU says its biennial request for state funding focuses on projects for renovations of classrooms, labs, student-focused spaces, as well as related facilities and infrastructure.
IU says the updates are necessary to support academic and research programs. The 2023-25 request includes four priority areas.
They include:
Wells Quad-Public Health renovation: The project will renovate portions of Wells Quad and School of Public Health facilities on the Bloomington campus, including Sycamore Hall, Sarah Parke Morrison Hall, Music Addition and Public Health. The project will cover nearly 600,000 square feet. IU says student spaces will be updated with the latest technologies, including classrooms in all buildings and music practice rooms and rehearsal spaces in the Music Addition. New energy-efficient building systems will also be installed in all buildings, as well as façade repairs and installation of new windows. The cost of the project is about $89.5 million.
IU School of Nursing infrastructure renovation: The project will renovate the School of Nursing on the IUPUI campus, totaling about 140,000 square feet. IU says classrooms, the auditorium and learning spaces will be updated, and new energy-efficient building systems will be installed. Additionally, windows will be replaced, and restrooms will be renovated. The project is expected to cost $27 million.
Research laboratory infrastructure renovation: The project will renovate research laboratories in four STEM-focused buildings on the Bloomington campus, as well as installation of a combined heat and power system. IU says lab facilities and related infrastructure will be updated in Biology Hall, Chemistry, Multidisciplinary Engineering and Science Hall, and Psychology. The project is expected to cost $65 million.
Regional campus deferred maintenance: The project will address repairs and renovations of facilities and infrastructure impacting 16 buildings on five campuses. IU says work will include upgrades or replacements to mechanical and heating systems, elevators, roofs, skylights, lighting, labs, restrooms, and hardscapes. The project is expected to cost $25 million.
The university says its 10-year capital project plan for all campuses was also approved.
