IU Announces Commencement Speakers

Subscribe NowIndiana University has announced its lineup of commencement speakers for this spring’s graduation ceremonies in Bloomington and Indianapolis. They include Anne-Marie Slaughter, the first woman to serve as director of policy planning for the U.S. Department of State, and former WNBA superstar Tamika Catchings.
Slaughter, who currently serves as president and chief executive officer of political think tank New America, will speak at the undergraduate commencement ceremony at IU Bloomington on May 6. Her career also includes time as dean of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and a professor of international, foreign and comparative law and Harvard University.
Chinese literary scholar Pauline Yu will speak at IU’s graduate commencement ceremony on May 5. She is president of the American Council of Learned Societies and a senior adjunct research scholar and visiting professor in East Asian languages and cultures at Columbia University.
Tamika Catchings, widely recognized as one of the greatest women to ever play basketball, will deliver the commencement address at the IUPUI commencement ceremony May 14 at Lucas Oil Stadium. She spent her entire 15-year WNBA career with the Indiana Fever, leading the team to its first championship in 2012. Her Catch the Stars Foundation promotes literacy, fitness and mentoring among youth in the Indianapolis area.
