IndyGo says the 15.2-mile project will provide upgrades to the existing route along the East 38th Street and Post Road corridors, including nearly 10 miles of sidewalks, more than 350 ADA curb ramps, a multi-use path, and storm sewer separation, among others.
“The start of Purple Line construction symbolizes the beginning of new opportunity and growth for an entire community,” IndyGo President and CEO Inez Evans said in written remarks. “We know this project will bring unprecedented renewal and phenomenal transformation as residents take advantage of the opportunity to move forward faster.”
Construction on the Purple Line is expected to begin early next month. The line is expected to open for service in 2024.

IndyGo launched its first BRT line, the Red Line, on Labor Day weekend in 2019. The 13-mile line runs from County Line Road on Indy’s south side to 66th Street on the north side.
Plans are also in place for the Blue Line, which is still in the design phase. IndyGo is planning a 24-mile route along Washington Street that would run between Indianapolis International Airport and Cumberland.
