The YMCA said Tuesday the funding will support the construction of an outdoor sports complex that, when open, will serve the entire community.
The complex will feature two soccer parks, a 40-yard turf field, basketball and pickleball courts, a pavilion and an outdoor walking trail.
“We are addressing some unmet needs in our community with the addition of turf fields and a walking path,” Jim Naumovich, center advisory board chair for Baxter YMCA, said in a news release. “Sport and wellness are two of the Baxter YMCA’s pillars and this project checks both of those boxes. This development will provide additional opportunities to engage the public as well as our members.”
The Baxter YMCA is located at 7900 Shelby Street on the city’s south side.
Officials plan to break ground on the project in March, but the YMCA said an additional $100,000 will be needed to complete construction.
The YMCA did not provide a time frame for the sports park to open. The organization did not immediately return a request for more information from Inside INdiana Business.
