Indy Company Doubles Down on Commitment to Veterans

TRIMEDX has announced it is now a DOD SkillBridge industry partner and employer, which it says will allow the company to provide learning opportunities such as apprenticeships, internships and industry training for those exiting the military. Chief Human Resources and Diversity Officer Dawn Griffin says the company has some 3,000 employees across 40 states, many of which have military experience.
Griffin tells Inside INdiana Business the partnership with SkillBridge is an important one for the company.
“The SkillBridge is a great program and it aligns well with our strategy to develop our own talent, which we do both internally and through partnerships like SkillBridge,” said Griffin. “Additionally, over 17% of our workforce has military background, so it’s really important for us to connect in that way with people with military experience and their work experience and the skills they develop inside the military transitions really well to our environment.”
The DOD SkillBridge program connects military personnel with industry partners to gain civilian work experience during their final 180 days of service, with the goal of bridging the gap between the end of military service and the beginning of their civilian careers.
TRIMEDX provides clinical engineering services for the healthcare industry. Griffin says the problem solving, decision making, teamwork and technical skills military personnel learn during their service translates well to the company, especially for those with biomedical, technology or leadership experience.
She says the company has been implementing the SkillBridge program since early 2021.
“We look for a combined opportunity where we have openings within TRIMEDX and job vacancies, but also where SkillBridge participants align well with that in terms of location and also opportunity. So, we just look at those two sets of data and try to match those up.”
Griffin says the company continues to get feedback from SkillBridge participants about what they enjoyed about their experience with TRIMEDX and where they can improve.
“So far, everyone has said that they’ve really enjoyed their experience and it’s really fit well with learning opportunities in terms of what they’re looking to do in transitioning from the military,” she said. “But, a long-term goal would be to be able to transition all of our SkillBridge participants in their internships into careers at TRIMEDX.”
