The money is going toward the Highway Safety Improvement Program, and INDOT says its goal is to reduce serious crashes by 25% over the next decade.
In total, 64 local governmental entities are getting part of the $50 million. INDOT says that money will fund nearly 100 safety projects by the end of the 2027 fiscal year.
“It takes all of us to make an impact on roadway safety,” said INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith in a press release. “This is just one way we are engaging with local agencies and making them part of the larger conversation. These are proven countermeasures that will enhance safety on local roads across the state.”
