Welch Packaging said this month that it has merged with Capitol City Container Corp., though financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed.
Welch Packaging was founded in 1985 and manufactures custom corrugated products for local customers. The company had more than 1,600 employees prior to the merger.
Established in 1974 and owned by Rich Purcell, Mike Purcell and Josh Bryant, Cap City Container also produces custom corrugated products with more than 70 employees, all of whom are being retained, a spokesperson for Welch told Inside INdiana Business.
“We are thrilled to welcome Cap City Container to the Welch Packaging family,” Scott Welch, CEO of Welch Packaging,” said in a news release. “I have known and respected the Purcells for many years. It will be nice to work together toward shared success rather than compete against one another.”
Welch Packaging said the Indianapolis corrugator operation it founded last year, IndyCorr, will provide supply chain support for Cap City Container.
“The Cap City team is expected to continue leading the business unit and supporting their customers with the same high level of service that they have for many years,” the spokesperson for Welch said.
