Her appointment comes just weeks after current Chancellor Ken Iwama was named vice president for regional campuses and online education at IU.
“With more than 28 years of experience in faculty and administrative positions, Vicki is known–throughout the IU system–for her passion for higher education administration, her strong commitment to shared governance, her talent for collaborative leadership and her continued commitment to strategic enrollment and student success initiatives,” Iwama said in a news release
IU Northwest said during her tenure, Román-Lagunas has been instrumental in leading the learning, teaching and scholarship efforts on the campus.
Román-Lagunas previously served as acting provost and professor of Spanish at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.
She will begin her role as interim chancellor on July 1.
Meanwhile, IU Northwest said it will begin its search for a permanent successor to Iwama soon. The university plans to partner with a national search firm to find “the most robust and qualified pool of candidates possible.”
