Indiana unemployment ticks up in April

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Friday that the state added 300 private sector jobs over March.
The DWD said Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,848,500. The state primarily saw job gains in the professional and business services; financial activities, private educational and health services; and manufacturing sectors.
The state’s labor force participation rate fell one-tenth of a percent to 62.5%, which remains above the national rate of 62.7%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,378,923, down just over 1,900 from the previous month.
The DWD said the state had 102,684 open job postings as of May 16, while 20,331 unemployment insurance claims were filed as of the week ending April 27.
The state’s unemployment rate is lower than the national rate, which rose one-tenth of a percent to 3.9% in April.
