Indiana unemployment ticks up again in October

Despite the increase, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Tuesday that the state added a modest 100 private sector jobs last month.
October’s unemployment rate marks the sixth consecutive month-over-month increase.
The DWD said Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,872,900 jobs. Indiana primarily saw job gains in the leisure and hospitality and private educational and health services sectors.
The state’s labor force participation rate rose two-tenths of a percent to 63.2%–higher than the national rate, which fell slightly to 62.6%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at a record of 3,432,973, according to the DWD.
The DWD said the state had 93,485 open job postings as of Nov. 1, while 20,802 continued unemployment insurance claims were filed as of the week ending Oct. 26.
The state’s unemployment rate is higher than the national rate, which stayed flat in October at 4.1%.
