The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Friday the state added 7,300 private sector jobs over the previous month.
The state’s unemployment has risen at least one-tenth of a percent every month since the 3% mark in April.
Despite the increase, the DWD says Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,850,000, marking a new peak for the state. The increase in jobs last month is being attributed to gains in the trade, transportation and utilities; leisure and hospitality; financial activities; and manufacturing sectors.
The state’s labor force participation rate dropped one-tenth of a percent to 63.4% but remains above the national rate of 62.8%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,426,114, down about 3,200 from the previous month.
The DWD said the state had 106,807 open job postings as of Oct. 17, while 14,348 unemployment insurance claims were filed.
The state’s unemployment rate remains below the national rate, which remained steady at 3.8%.
