Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed, but a spokesperson for Flock says no jobs are being lost as a result.
Uniform Sierra Aerospace was co-founded by three Purdue University alumni and had developed a pair of unmanned aircraft systems designed for use by first responders and search-and-rescue teams.
The company’s initial tactical drone, known as the Arrowhead system, was developed for indoor use to help first responders gather information from situations that could be dangerous, such as SWAT standoffs, collapsed buildings and house fires.
Recently, the startup expanded its product offerings with the Panther system, an outdoor drone that is designed to fly for more than 45 minutes and cruise at 50 miles per hour in certain conditions.
“This marks an incredible milestone in our journey and we couldn’t be more thrilled to join a team with such a great mission,” co-founder Duncan Mulgrew said in a post on LinkedIn. “We will continue to support our base of Arrowhead operators nationwide. As we transition into our new organization, we couldn’t be more optimistic about the future.”
Flock Safety, headquartered in Atlanta, has developed a public safety technology platform that includes license plate recognition cameras, first responder drones like those made by Uniform Sierra, and other hardware and software used by law enforcement, school districts, and other customers.
A spokesperson for Flock said the entire Uniform Sierra will join the company’s team of more than 1,000 U.S. employees and will be part of the Flock Aviation division.
The company declined an interview request from Inside INdiana Business but provided the following statement:
“Flock is committed to providing the best drones for all customers, whether they prioritize design, affordability, efficiency, or production,” said CEO Garrett Langley. “Bringing on the talented Uniform Sierra Aerospace team is another step in building the best NDAA-compliant drones on the market. We are excited to welcome them to Flock.”
Flock counts more than 150 cities, businesses and law enforcement agencies around Indiana among its clients.
