The 184,000-square-foot building will offer detox, residential inpatient, and outpatient services for substance use disorders as well as an inpatient psychiatric care unit and residential inpatient care for mental health disorders.
The center staff believe it is filling a gap in needed community resources.
“We are excited about this expansion,” said Cheyenne Riker, general counsel of Indiana Center For Recovery, in a news release. “The acquisition of the former St. Vincent Hospital not only strengthens our footprint but also enhances our ability to offer comprehensive, integrated care. This facility will provide much-needed mental health and addiction treatment services to the greater Bedford community.”
The Ascension hospital closed in December 2022, and the system conducted an unsuccessful search for a buyer. The center announced its purchase a year later on Dec. 8, making the Bedford facility its second hospital acquired in the last two years.
The new center will open in spring 2024. It will join a roster of other locations in Bloomington, Mishawaka, Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Merrillville, Jeffersonville, Lafayette and Carmel.
