Ignite Your Superpower! at the University of Indianapolis will include hands-on experiments, and appearances by industry role models including Pippa Mann and Sarah Fisher. During an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Indy Women in Tech Inc. Secretary Melissa Watson joined Women & Hi Tech Past President Tiffany White who said the event will "breathe confidence" into the students about STEM.
Mann, a Verizon IndyCar Series driver and Fisher, a race team founder, entrepreneur and former driver are part of the event’s speaker lineup.
"Studies show that girls often don’t think they can be successful, especially in STEM environments," White said, "so when girls see someone that successful like Pippa or like Sarah, or like myself or like Melissa, they say ‘oh, maybe I can do that, too.’ So, it’s vitally important that girls in every community at every stage get to see these people."
The event is a collaboration among the organizations and Conner Prairie. The student participants will come from Harshman Middle School of Indianapolis Public Schools and Stoney Brook Intermediate Academy, Raymond Park Intermediate Academy and Creston Intermediate Academy of Warren Township Schools.
